Tom Tomorrow: 25 Years of Tomorrow
Presentation: 25 Years of Tomorrow
Saturday, Oct. 21 at 4 p.m. — Englert Theatre | View Schedule
Tom Tomorrow (Dan Perkins) is an Iowa City native (now residing in Connecticut) and the creator of This Modern World, a weekly cartoon of political and social satire which is featured on sites such as The Nation and Daily Kos, and which has been a mainstay of the alternative press for more than two decades — including publication in every issue of his hometown alternative magazine, Little Village. He is a two-time recipient of the Robert F. Kennedy Journalism Award, the 2013 recipient of the Herblock Prize for editorial cartooning, and a 2015 finalist for the Pulitzer Prize.
For Witching Hour Festival, Perkins will share his experience as a political cartoonist that has now satirized four U.S. presidencies, drawing on work from his recent two-volume hard-bound retrospective, 25 Years of Tomorrow (a second edition of which was published this summer by IDW). He’ll also reminisce about his local origin story — selling self-published zines at Prairie Lights while working in Iowa City’s downtown copy center, Zephyr Printing & Design.
